The National Gallery of Australia (NGA) was presented with the Major Tourist Attractions Award at the Canberra and Capital Region Tourism Awards announced last night. This is the second year in a row that the NGA has won this prestigious category.
Questacon – The National Science and Technology Centre was the recipient of the Tourist Attractions Awards – the ninth year in a row in which they have received this Award. The Royal Australian Mint took out the commendation for this category.
The Australian National Botanic Gardens won the Ecotourism Award – a wonderful achievement for the Gardens which hold the world’s most diverse collection of Australian native plants.
In the Specialised Tourism Services category two commendations were awarded. The Canberra Centre and Handmade Canberra, incorporating the popular Shop Handmade and the Handmade Market, were both acknowledged with commendations.
Floriade 2012 took out the Major Festivals and Events Award at the Canberra and Capital Region Tourism Awards for the fifth year in a row, a fantastic achievement for the event held in its 25th year.
The National Folk Festival in 2013 which attracted more than 50,000 people from all over Australia won the Festivals and Events Award.
VisitCanberra’s Human Brochure campaign won the award for Destination Marketing at the Canberra and Capital Region Tourism Awards announced last night. This is a fantastic accolade for the tourism industry and the more than 60 industry partners who were involved in the successful campaign.
Elm Cottage was awarded the Unique Accommodation Award at the 2013 Tourism Awards, for their luxury cottages set beside the Goobarragandra River in the Snowy Mountains.
The Hyatt Hotel Canberra has taken out the Luxury Accommodation category at the Awards, a testament to their ongoing excellence in service and quality.
The Diamant Hotel Canberra was awarded a commendation in the Deluxe Accommodation category.
Novotel Canberra has again taken out the Qantas Award for Excellence in Sustainable Tourism at the 2013 Canberra and Capital Region Tourism Awards. This category acknowledges strength in sustainability across the environment and community.
