Since 2010 Tourism Australia’s global consumer marketing campaign There’s Nothing Like Australia has been successfully attracting millions of international travellers by showcasing some of the best attractions and experiences Australia has to offer.
In 2017, Tourism Australia is partnering with BuzzFeed Australia for a campaign targeting global youth markets, as part of a $10 million push to attract young holidaymakers.
VisitCanberra are participating in the campaign and will be working with our local tourism industry on projects such as visiting influencers, visiting journalists and relevant content stories. Details will be available once provided by Tourism Australia as the campaign develops.
Tourism Australia and BuzzFeed Australia are on the hunt for the next generation of visual storytellers from around the world to join the first ever BuzzFeed Mateship program, a once-in-lifetime fellowship and travel program that will see the Mates work, travel and capture content across Australia.
Eight young travellers and aspiring content creators from the UK, Germany, Italy and France will be flown to Australia for a three-month road trip to discover and report on some of the most unique, eye-opening and breathtaking experiences across the country for both Tourism Australia and BuzzFeed’s social channels.
The partnership is part of a broader global youth campaign that is due to be unveiled in October, designed to encourage young people from around the world to see Australia as an appealing destination.

The campaign has evolved and developed over time and since early 2016 focus has been on one of Australia’s key competitive advantages – the quality and variety of our aquatic experiences and our abundant, natural coastline.
The campaign features more than a dozen unique and distinct Australian aquatic and coastal experiences including Canberra’s Lake Burley Griffin. Canberra’s major aquatic centrepiece, Lake Burley Griffin, is surrounded by an array of world-class tourist attractions and experiences. From hot air ballooning over the lake to exploring the attractions along its shoreline and enjoying a variety of dining options on its edge; Lake Burley Griffin and the experiences it is home to position Canberra well in this campaign.
