Canberra developer GEOCON has announced a new 61-room Abode Hotel will be constructed adjacent to Canberra’s premier restaurant precinct, Kingston.
Abode Hotels general manager Rien Donkin said the company was excited to be expanding its signature self-contained apartment hotel offering in Canberra’s inner south.
“This new Abode will have its own style with a boutique feel that will complement the surrounding streetscape and Kingston’s unique ambiance,” Mr Donkin said.
“We have been experiencing strong occupancy across our hotels and are looking forward to encouraging more visitors to Kingston, which will help add to the life of the precinct and increase patronage of local businesses” he said.
Located on the corner of Kennedy and Eyre streets, the hotel will be four-storeys and include basement parking. Designed by Canberra firm Stewart Architecture, construction is expected to be completed by the end of 2018.
This marks the second major announcement for GEOCON within recent weeks. GEOCON, in partnership with Fender Katsalidis architects and Oculus, has won the tender to develop the Kingston Arts Precinct, the last major block on the Kingston Foreshore.
The consortium’s plans include workshops, gallery spaces and offices for arts groups, visiting artist accommodation, landscaped plazas for outdoor entertainment and events, and generous parking provisions.
