The latest Tourism in the ACT Snapshot has just been released based on the latest Tourism Research Australia’s National and International Visitor Surveys, for the year ending March 2017. The data shows Canberra welcomed 4.58 million visitors over the year who spent a record $2.35 billion in overnight expenditure.
The latest National Visitor Survey (NVS) for the year ending March 2017 shows domestic overnight visitors, visitor nights and expenditure levels have all increased. The ACT welcomed 2.50 million domestic overnight visitors over the period, alongside a record 214,463 international visitors, as well as 1.86 million domestic day trippers – making the year ending March 2017 very successful for visitation.
These visitors spent a combined total of $2.35 billion, including record amounts of expenditure for domestic and international overnight visitors, making it the most successful year ever for expenditure in the ACT.
The latest results reflect the ACT Government’s commitment to increasing visitation alongside length of stay and yield, to grow the visitor economy to $2.5 billion by 2020. VisitCanberra’s One Good Thing After Another marketing platform and enhanced travel trade engagement are among the activities taking place. In addition, cooperative work with key international airline partner Singapore Airlines continues, alongside initiatives with Tigerair Australia who commenced their new, low cost carrier, route between Canberra and Melbourne in December last year.
