This month Mercure Canberra celebrates its 90th birthday.
Originally known as the Hotel Ainslie, Mercure Canberra was built in 1927 to provide accommodation for public servants relocating to Canberra to support the transfer of the Commonwealth Parliament from Melbourne. Today, the hotel is one of eight remaining government built hotels from Canberra’s first stage of development in the 1920s and is listed in the Register of the National Estate.
To mark the occasion, Mercure Canberra will be hosting a 1920s themed gala event, taking place on Friday 15 September from 6pm. Guests will feel like they have taken a step back in time to the 1920s with cabaret entertainment inspired by the era, and a menu created to match. Tickets are available to purchase online.
In keeping with the 90th birthday celebrations, Mercure Canberra is also offering exclusive $90 room rates for overnight stays in September (terms and conditions apply).
