The latest Tourism in the ACT Snapshot has just been released based on the latest Tourism Research Australia’s (TRA) National and International Visitor Surveys, for the year ending June 2017. The data shows Canberra welcomed just under 5 million visitors during the year, who spent a record $2.46 billion in expenditure.
The latest visitor surveys for the year ending June 2017 shows record breaking overnight visitor numbers both domestically and internationally, alongside record breaking overnight expenditure for both markets. The ACT welcomed a new record of 2.65 million domestic overnight visitors over the period, alongside a record 221,479 international visitors, as well as 2.09 million domestic day trippers – making the year ending June 2017 very successful for visitation.
These visitors spent a combined total of $2.46 billion, including record amounts of expenditure for domestic and international overnight visitors, making it the most successful year to date for expenditure in the ACT.
The latest results reflect the ACT Government’s commitment to increasing visitation alongside length of stay and yield, to grow the visitor economy to $2.5 billion by 2020. VisitCanberra’s One Good Thing After Another marketing platform and enhanced travel trade engagement are among the activities taking place. In addition, cooperative work with key international airline partner Singapore Airlines continues, alongside domestic partnership work with Tigerair Australia. With their new, low cost carrier route between Canberra and Brisbane launched mid-September, alongside additional daily return flights to their Melbourne service, ongoing partnership initiatives with Tigerair will continue to support domestic aviation services to our destination.
