  • Promoting Canberra in China and Hong Kong
POSTED December 20, 2017
CATEGORIES Industry, International,

Last week, VisitCanberra attended the Greater China Travel Mission (GCTM) in Guangzhou, China. The event provided VisitCanberra with a valuable opportunity to raise awareness of our destination and experiences, and establish connections with 70 key qualified travel agencies and tour operators from China, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

Hosted by Tourism Australia, the event consisted of pre-scheduled meetings with every attendee as well as opportunities to network, and finished with the closing ceremony for the China-Australia Year of Tourism. GCTM was also supported by Blue Skies Adventure tours.

Although GCTM is a business-to-business event, Tourism Australia wanted to take advantage of having many of Australia’s tourism operators and all State and Territory Tourism Organisations (STOs) in one place, and arranged for an activity to reach Chinese consumers. A one hour live stream video ran on Inke, a live streaming platform in China, which included interviews with VisitCanberra and STOs, as well as interviews with operators. These videos were watched by over 1 million consumers.

Following GCTM, VisitCanberra along with Tourism Australia and all STOs, hosted an industry function in Hong Kong. VisitCanberra had the opportunity to present to over 80 industry attendees, which was another great platform to help to raise awareness of our destination to these important contacts.

Trade events like GCTM, are a great way to connect with key contacts in the international markets. If you would like further information on GCTM or other trade events, please contact trade.tourism@act.gov.au
