  • Record total visitation and expenditure for the ACT
POSTED December 20, 2017
CATEGORIES Industry, Research,

The latest Tourism in the ACT Snapshot has just been released based on Tourism Research Australia’s (TRA) National and International Visitor Surveys (NVS and IVS), for the year ending September 2017. The data shows Canberra welcomed just under 5 million overnight and day trip visitors during the year, who spent a record $2.47 billion in expenditure.

The latest visitor surveys for the year ending September 2017 show record breaking overnight visitor numbers both domestically and internationally, alongside record breaking international overnight expenditure.  The ACT welcomed a new record of 2.71 million domestic overnight visitors over the period, alongside a record 228,038 international visitors, as well as 2.05 million domestic day trippers – making the year ending September 2017 very successful for visitation.

These visitors spent a combined total of $2.47 billion, including record amounts of expenditure for international overnight visitors and domestic day trip visitors, making it the most successful year to date for all visitor expenditure in the ACT.

The latest results reflect the ACT Government’s commitment to increasing visitation alongside length of stay and yield, to grow the visitor economy to $2.5 billion by 2020. VisitCanberra’s One Good Thing After Another marketing platform and enhanced travel trade engagement are among the activities taking place. In addition, cooperative work with key international airline partner Singapore Airlines continues, alongside domestic partnership work with Tigerair Australia.
