Today Singapore Airlines announced a significant enhancement to the service connecting Canberra and Singapore starting on 1 May 2018.
Frequency of the service will increase to daily flights connecting Canberra to one of the world’s largest aviation hubs seven days a week.
The announcement is great news for Canberra growing international connectivity and will be supported by an upgrade to the aircraft. A new Boeing 777-300ER fitted with 264 seats will provide passengers with a premium world-class service that includes a first class cabin, high quality business product as well as premium economy.
The increase in frequency will provide an additional 40,768 additional seats annually, bringing significant benefits in facilitating trade and investment opportunities and growing the value of tourism to the economy.
Together with this announcement, Singapore Airlines advised additional route changes. The Canberra – Wellington Service will unfortunately cease on 30 April 2018. In order to manage the implementation of the daily service, maintaining the Wellington connection was not possible.
The launch of the Capital Express service in 2016 provided the opportunity to establish an extremely productive sister city relationship with Wellington. Many enduing relationships have established that will remain even with the loss of the direct connection with New Zealand’s capital.
A schedule change will be introduced on the Canberra – Singapore service with the inbound leg transiting briefly in Sydney. The Canberra-Singapore service remains a direct flight.
