Qatar Airways commenced their new daily service to Canberra on Monday 12 February. The new service connects Canberra to 150 destinations around the world.
On board the inaugural Qatar Airways flight to Canberra, Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive, His Excellency Akbar Al Baker, was joined by His Excellency Axel Wabenhorst, The Australian Ambassador to the State of Qatar. The VIP delegation was greeted upon arrival by ACT Chief Minister Andrew Barr MLA; Stephen Byron, Managing Director of Canberra Airport; and His Excellency Nasser bin Hamad Al-Khalifa, Qatar’s Ambassador to Australia.
Qatar hosted a number of activities around the inaugural flight including a press conference for Australian and international media and a gala dinner for the business community, both held on Tuesday 13 February. Prior to the service commencing Qatar Airways also unveiled a specifically designed branded hot air balloon, operated by Balloon Aloft, which took to the skies on Thursday 8 February.
Canberra will be Qatar Airways’ fifth Australian destination. The daily Doha-Canberra service, via Sydney, will be operated on a 358-seater Boeing 777-300 aircraft.
