The latest Tourism in the ACT Snapshot has just been released based on Tourism Research Australia (TRA) National and International Visitor Surveys for the year ending March 2018, and TRA’s State Tourism Satellite Account (State TSA) for 2016-2017. The data shows Canberra welcomed 4.94 million overnight and day trip visitors during the year, who spent $2.43 billion in expenditure. TRA’s State TSA report has also been released for 2016-2017 showing Tourism in the ACT contributes $2.26 billion to the wider ACT economy and employs 16,800 jobs.
The latest visitor surveys for the year ending March 2018 reflect a strong international performance with record breaking international overnight visitors, and international overnight expenditure. The ACT welcomed a total of just under 3 million domestic and international overnight visitors for the period; 2.69million domestic overnight, 248,428 international overnight visitors, as well as 2.0 million domestic day visitors making the year ending March 2018 very successful for visitation.
The latest results reflect the ACT Government’s commitment to increasing visitation alongside length of stay and yield, to grow the visitor economy to $2.5 billion by 2020. VisitCanberra’s One Good Thing After Another marketing platform, investment in major events and exhibitions, domestic and international aviation partnerships and enhanced travel trade engagement, are among the activities taking place. In addition, cooperative work with key international airline partner Singapore Airlines continues.
