The latest Tourism in the ACT Snapshot has just been released based on the latest Tourism Research Australia (TRA) National and International Visitor Surveys for the year ending June 2018, and TRA’s State Tourism Satellite Account (State TSA) for 2016-2017. The data shows Canberra welcomed a record 4.99 million overnight and day trip visitors during the year, who spent a record $2.55 billion in expenditure. TRA’s State TSA report has also been released for 2016-2017 showing Tourism in the ACT employs 16,800 jobs.
The latest visitor surveys for the year ending June 2018 reflect a strong international performance with record breaking international overnight visitors, visitor nights and overnight expenditure. The ACT also welcomed a total of just under 2.7 million domestic overnight visitors for the period along with 2.0 million domestic day visitors making the year ending June 2018 very successful for visitation.
The latest results reflect the ACT Government’s commitment to increasing visitation alongside length of stay and yield, to grow the visitor economy to $2.5 billion by 2020. VisitCanberra’s One Good Thing After Another marketing platform, investment in major events and exhibitions, domestic and international aviation partnerships and enhanced travel trade engagement, are among current activities supporting the continuing growth in visitation to our destination.
