The Canberra Nara Candle Festival returns to Lennox Gardens on Saturday 26 October celebrating Canberra’s sister city relationship with Nara, Japan.
Hosted at the magical Nara Peace Park in Lennox Gardens from 4pm to 9pm, the Festival – in its 26th year – offers a vibrant and family friendly atmosphere, complemented by a variety of Japanese arts and crafts, such as lantern making, calligraphy, origami, and a variety of Japanese inspired market stall.
Officially recognising the relationship of peace and goodwill, the annual festival is based upon a much larger candle festival, the Nara ‘Tokae’, which is held in Nara, Japan. This year’s festival features 3000 candles symbolising the strength and importance of the sister city relationship.
There will be Japanese inspired performers, including martial arts and drumming, as well as kimono dress-up, tea ceremonies, furoshiki demonstrations from 4pm onwards, with food and drinks available onsite, offering a delicious range of Japanese inspired choices.
