The gates at Commonwealth Park have closed for Floriade’s 32nd year, with the event wrapping up on Sunday 13 October following Dogs’ Day Out.
Great spring weather, a jam packed entertainment schedule, good food and of course spectacular floral displays brought booming crowds across the 30 day event. NightFest also returned for four nights across the long weekend and headliners including The Veronicas, Busby Marou, Dave Hughes and Urzila Carlson combined with a few warmer nights brought crowds out of their winter hibernation.
In 2019 Floriade showcased to visitors the best of what Canberra has to offer with local musicians, artists, market stalls plus food and beverage suppliers featuring across the 30 days of the festival. We saw a strong response to the involvement of local food and beverage suppliers last year, and in 2019 we built upon this further. We continued our partnerships with Pialligo Estate, Capital Brewing Co., Contentious Character, Underground Spirits plus a range of local food vendors and market stalls.
This year saw the introduction of brand new community initiative, Floriade in the Suburbs. These pop-up style events occurred at five Canberra town centres during September and October – leveraging the opportunity that Floriade provides to create a sense of community, add vibrancy to the town centres and to enhance accessibility to major events.
Official visitor numbers and economic impact are being calculated and will be released in due course.
It was wonderful to see Floriade leveraged and extended through businesses and events in the city over the past two months. The team at Events ACT and VisitCanberra thank everyone for their support and we look forward to working with you all again in 2020.
The dates for future Floriade events are:
