Canberra is one of the top 5 most sustainable cities in the world (Earth.org, 2022), which means a visit to Canberra is a good choice for those who want to have less of a carbon footprint within their travel plans.
The ACT Government is proud that Canberra has achieved a 100% renewable energy supply, and that it is the first city outside Europe and 8th in the world to achieve 100% renewable energy generated by wind and photovoltaic power. Canberra also has the highest number of electric vehicle charge stations per capita in Australia, the first testing facility in Australia for replacing natural gas with hydrogen, and it is home to Australia’s largest community-owned solar farm.
Canberra and Region tourism businesses and operators are an essential part of the sustainability story, and VisitCanberra is here to assist you in finding your place in the sustainability story of Canberra. There is more than one way to accredit your business or offering as sustainable, and we’ve compiled a few essential kick-starters to get you going on, or continuing on, your journey to sustainability.
